The Hazyview Parkrun at Sabi River Sun

A year and a half of parkrun fun…. A tribute to a great event

Hazyview parkrun was started with great enthusiasm and we wondered what we were going to do to sustain this bubbling fountain of excitement on Saturdays of early rising and engaging with people from all walks of life.

What an amazing surprize it has been to realise that we had to do very little other than to provide this life changing event to guests, locals and staff.  Some incredible statistics are that since the start of the event we have seen 2 220 participants completing 6 170 parkruns covering a distance of 30 850km. We have also seen 745 participants record personal best times at our events.

This year has seen staff members Cindy, Mfana and Mark all reach their 50th runs. Chris reached his 100th parkrun, and Cindy is just short of her 100th. A special mention has to go to one of our locals, Warren Bartholomew, who survived colon cancer and celebrated his 100th Parkrun, with a special dedication in the Parkrun Newsletter to our event!

We have seen community members getting involved as volunteers and growing immensely as people with a purpose. Individuals who were shy and insecure, have grown to become self-assured and confident.  Sixty five individuals have volunteered 654 times, with the top volunteers in our Sabi community being, Mdu, John, Sibusiso and Cindy. Parkrun has provided so much to the resort and community. Through this we have formed friendships and respect. A lasting event that needs nothing but passion and a love for running, walking and the beautiful surroundings of Sabi River Sun.
