Dear Beacon Island Owner
Welcome to the Beacon Island Resort newsletter, the first in a regular series we’ll be sending our valued timeshare owners to keep you updated on news, events and goings-on at your favourite home from home.
We also look forward to welcoming each of you in person to the fresh, new-look Beacon Island that’s coming soon. As we report in our lead article, work commences in May this year on a major soft refurb of our timeshare units, as well as corridors and lift landings. The purpose of the much-anticipated project is both to repair wear and tear and keep Beacon Island moving ahead with the times. We’re confident that these beautifully stylish new units will do just that.
While moving ahead is important, we should never undervalue the past, especially at a resort like ours steeped in the history of generations of holidaymakers. In this vein, our update on water savings tells of how an almost-forgotten attraction from Beacon Island’s heyday has come back into play in slicing our usage of municipal water and better equipping us for future challenges.
We also profile the remarkable Joe Moodley, our former head guest relations officer and, as a retiree, a singer and hiking-tour guide in the entertainment team. Joe’s involvement with Beacon Island spans 46 years, making him part of our vibrant living history and a man much-loved by decades of guests for his friendly, personal touch.
The personal touch is important to us – it extends even into our corporate social investment, as you’ll see in the article on the two rural schools we are assisting to empower disadvantaged learners.
So, looking back to the past, and looking ahead to the future, both of this wonderful resort and our community in Plettenberg Bay, my team and I wish to thank you one and all for the equally wonderful support you have shown us as Southern Sun Resorts over the years. Long may it continue.
In these times of load-shedding, be assured that your holiday with us is safe. Thanks to the foresight of our board of directors, we have a generator on-site to provide an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the resort. Beacon Island Resort is a beacon that, in more ways than one, keeps on shining.
